ISSUES

Veterans

Ed believes that it is unacceptable to allow those who fought and sacrificed for our freedom to go untreated for months. The treatment of our Veterans under the Obama administration is a national disgrace and Secretary Shinseki should resign. Ed will work hard to restore cuts in the budget that affected our military, especially our Veterans who risked their lives to keep us free. The callousness displayed by Washington, including President Obama and Congressman McAllister, when they passed a budget that cut benefits to our Veterans, while dramatically expanding the welfare state, was unconscionable. Ed makes this promise to our Veterans…. YOU HAVE A FRIEND IN ED TARPLEY. God bless our veterans and our current servicemen and women.

Obamacare

Ed is committed to repealing Obamacare and replacing it with “free market” reforms that protect freedom of choice and patients’ rights. Ed believes that a couple of those reforms in the healthcare system which would reduce costs and increase competitiveness would include the sale of insurance across state lines and the promotion of Health Savings Accounts. This would help patients achieve a level of self insurance, reducing their premium expense by allowing an increasing deductible. Ed knows that at the heart of our great American medical system is the sanctity of the doctor/patient relationship. Ed will not support any proposal that does not respect this relationship and encourage the free enterprise practice of medicine.

Jobs and the Economy

Ed will actively promote a reliance on the private sector to expand job opportunities to the unemployed and under employed. The number of Americans participating in the workforce is declining under the current administration. Government solutions to our economic woes are not working. Ed believes we must implement free market solutions to solve our economic problems. The largest providers of jobs in America are the small businesses that operate in every town and marketplace across this great country. Ed pledges to the voters of the 5th Congressional District that he will work tirelessly to promote small businesses, end corporate welfare and encourage entrepreneurialism wherever and whenever it rises up to help solve America’s problems.

The Constitution

Ed has been moved to enter this race because of circumstances in Washington regarding our chief law enforcement officer, the Attorney General, Eric Holder and our Commander in Chief, Barack Obama. Over the last several months we have all been witnesses to an apparent lack of respect for the rule of law. The expression of this “lawlessness” has been demonstrated by a lack of response to the sharp increase in illegal immigration and the failures of the Justice Department to enforce existing laws, and in the President’s continuous disregard for existing law surrounding the implementation of Obamacare. Ed believes that our time tested system of the balance of power between the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative branches is being compromised. Ed is calling for all citizen patriots around our country to rise to the defense of our Constitution.

Tax Reform

Ed will work to pass tax reform with the goal to simplify the tax structure while insuring that all Americans pay some form of income or minimum alternative tax. Ed believes we can no longer afford to promote a system where the burden of taxation is shouldered by fewer and fewer citizens each year. It is un-American for the voters to continue to vote for representatives who impose more taxes on the job creators while enriching themselves and their constituents out of the treasury with more welfare, expanded benefits, corporate welfare and perks and privileges to the elected class. The fiscal responsibility that we need to see implemented in our country can only happen when all Americans are paying taxes and have a “stake in the game” which makes every taxpayer care about what is happening in Washington to "their" money!

Second Amendment

Ed is a Hunter and outdoorsman and will defend our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Since the days of colonial America, the right of citizens to own and possess firearms has existed. This right was thought to be so important that the framers of the Constitution included it in the Bill of Rights as the Second Amendment. It is no less important today than it was in the 1700s and the right of Americans to protect their families and property must be defended against government interference.

As a former district attorney, Ed believes that we should keep firearms out of the hands of criminals and prosecute those who use guns in the commission of a crime. Ed will fight to protect and defend the right of law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights and will vigorously oppose the Obama administration's effort to pass new gun-control legislation in Congress.

Defending the Unborn

Ed Tarpley believes in the sanctity of human life and that all human beings are created in the image of God. Ed Tarpley will be a leader in the fight to promote a culture of life in America and to protect innocent unborn children from being killed by abortion.

Ed Tarpley will work to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which prohibits abortion for babies after 20 weeks, which is the age medical science has determined that an unborn child can feel pain in the womb.

Ed Tarpley will work to pass the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act which prohibits sex selection and race selection abortion, because unborn children should be entitled to equal protection under the law.

Ed Tarpley will work to promote adoption in our country and will fight to preserve and increase the Adoption Tax Credit, so that those families adopting children will be able to receive this benefit in order to offset some of the expenses of the adoption process.

Immigration

Border security is the paramount issue of the immigration debate in our country. A nation without borders is not a nation at all. Until we secure the border and control the flow of people into our country, no immigration law will be effective.

As a former prosecutor, Ed believes that we should not reward people for breaking the law. He opposes amnesty for those people who have come to our country illegally and violated our immigration laws.

Ed opposes the actions of the Obama administration which have weakened immigration enforcement in our country and effectively nullified the existing immigration laws passed by Congress.

Ed believes that immigration policy should be determined by the consent of the governed and not by those who wish to come to America. No country can survive the unlimited migration of people from all over the world.

Marriage and Family Values

Ed Tarpley supports traditional family values and believes that marriage is between one man and one woman.

He believes that traditional marriage is the foundation of our society and that it provides the best environment for growth and development of children.

Ed supports the Defense of Marriage Act and will oppose the Obama administration's efforts to weaken and re-define marriage in our country.

National Debt

The failure of the Congress to control federal spending has resulted in a national debt of over $17 trillion. Ed believes the enormity of this governmental disaster means that unless action is taken soon to balance the federal budget, future generations will be shackled with the responsibility of paying off the national debt incurred by their parents and grandparents.

For the sake of future generations and for the stability and prosperity of our nation, Congress must begin to take action to reign in federal spending and begin to pay down the national debt. Ed supports a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution and will not vote to increase the debt limit unless federal spending is reduced and significant budgetary reforms are enacted.
